My Musical Influences

  • the jam - the most influential track by the Jam must be Tube station but my alternative is English Rose. These two tracks for me define a total difference of style and ability of the King of the MODS. Weller has gone on to influence a lot of artists and can even be held responsible for that group from Manchester called Oasis.

  • u2 - Under a Blood red sky got them the press coverage the so much needed in the early eighties. It contained such tracks as Sunday Bloody Sunday and I will follow. This led them to heard by many who went on to make them the household name they are today.

  • madness - suggs, woody and the boys put the humour back into music just when punk rock had threatened society with its nasty images. The Nutty Boys as they became known had hits with House of fun, My girls mad at me and Embarresment only to make a Movie and lose all the money they had made as a result the band split only to appear together for tax reasons later on.

  • madonna - The original material girl shot to fame and is still there today . She used her body her voice and most of all the press to get where she is and thanks to the boys in the press she is the arguably most famous female peformer of the 80's and 90's.

  • dire straits - Money for nothing gave this ageing band a revival in the mid 80's quickly followed by the Brothers in Arms album which stayed in the album charts for nearly 2 years. For those of you looking for a top album to sit and chill to, try the Alchemy its a double album that seems to go on forever and dissapoints when it ends.

  • chris rea - Road to Hell was the first cd I bought dont ask me why but it seemed to be the right kinda music at the time. I have since discovered the album New Light through Old Windows which is a must for anybody who doubts this mans ability to produce top class music.

  • inxs - Michael Hutchence hit Britian in the early 80's with his boys from down under. Hits like Devil Inside and Kiss the dirt got plenty of airplay and gave rise to three follow up albums and girlfreinds listing Kylie Minogue, Helena Christianson and last of all Paula Yates?? Sadly Michael took his own life and the late 90's putting an end to inxs as we knew it olny for Terence trent d'arby to become lead singer.

  • electro - this music travelled from the streets of the u.s.a to the streets of england only to make gangs of youths start to carry a rolled up sheet of lino under their arm to street corners and spin on their heads. but like all good things parents hated it the constant beat the foul language and the deafening level you just had to listen to it.

  • classical - well ive sort of picked up on this as life has gone on. you cant escape it, wherever you go t.v. ads, radio, shops play it to sooth their shoppers into buying more stuff and hotels use it to give you a sense of high class. but hey not everybody likes to sit back and chill to the sound of some dead guys form of expression from when he was around.
